Bexhill College 2-1 Defeat Away to Aldershot Town

Bexhill College in association with Eastbourne Borough Football Club and Chelsea Football Club Foundation rounded off their league season with a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Aldershot Town in the National Alliance Under 19 League.

With the squad depleted due to the players examination commitments Eastbourne competed well against an Aldershot side who came into the game following a 3-game unbeaten run. Both teams swapped possession regularly in the early stages with the game lacking any flow or pattern. Aldershot then scored 2 quick goals to knock the stuffing out of Eastbourne with the 2nd a fantastic strike which beat striker Fletcher Holman who volunteered to play in goal for the game with 3 goalkeepers injured in the academy.

To their credit Eastbourne stuck to their task well with Charlie Gibson halving the deficit from an Alfie Simmons through ball from the right corner of the penalty box into the left top corner on the stroke of half time.

Buoyed by the goal late in the first half Eastbourne began the 2nd period on the front foot creating a series of chances but not troubling the Aldershot keeper enough. Charlie Gibson saw several attempts well saved with Ethan Howard also seeing an effort brilliantly denied when played through on goal.

Aldershot remained a threat on the counter attach with Holman called into action in the dying moments.

Academy Coach Sean Noble reflected, “With the number of players missing the players applied themselves fantastically well and competed to the very last whistle to their credit. On another day, I feel that we could deservedly have earned a draw but ultimately one piece of genuine quality from the Aldershot 2nd goal has separated the two teams. However, the players should be proud of their efforts.”

Player of the match was awarded to Alfie Simmons for an outstanding performance in midfield, never hiding from the ball and battled to the final whistle whilst providing his 3rd assist in 2 games.

Special mention must go to both Tyreek Nengoma and Luke Woolven who both made there debuts and performed brilliantly.

Eastbourne Team: Holman, Graves, Moir, Spice (c), Duah, Tarrant, Simmons, Nengoma, Gibson, Gray, Howard

Subs: Rwabigwi, Woolven.
