Bexhill College 2nd XI took on Claremont in a cup semi final which they knew was going to be a tough, close fought game, which didn’t disappoint.
Claremont started strongly, going 1-0 up within the first 5 minutes with a good strike from the edge of the box. However, Bexhill responded well and grew into the game and were able to play at a high intensity, putting the Claremont backline under pressure. The response was rewarded with a goal halfway through the first half, as Cameron Howard collected a loose ball in the box to round the keeper and roll the ball into an empty net.
Half time came with the score at 1-1, with Bexhill just about coming out on top. The second half started in the same way, with Bexhill playing at a good tempo, causing Claremont problems at the back which led to a quick fire second and third goal to go 3-1 up. Joe Oughton got on the end of a good delivery to power home a header and then Ethan Howard connected well with a dropping ball on the edge of the box to guide it into the bottom corner. Bexhill then dropped off and Claremont came on strong for the final 10 minutes, clawing a goal back with 5 minutes to go.
Bexhill however clung on with some good last ditch challenges to make it through to the final with a 3-2 win. We head to Sussex County FA's headquarters at Lancing FC for the finals on Wednesday 18th May, KO 6PM.
