Match Report - Bexhill College Basketball vs Northfleet Tech College II

Wednesday 20th April saw Bexhill College Basketball travel to Northfleet to face Northfleet Tech College Basketball in an AOC league game.

Bexhill started the game with a strong starting 5 of Reece Harrison, Dillon Byrne, Harvey Hylands, Aryan Ahangar, and Charlie Storrs. Both teams starting the first quarter in good fashion with Northfleet scoring the first bucket of the game, followed by a return by Bexhill. The match was fast paced with both sides looking to take an early lead, and it was Bexhill that did just that leading 10-6 thanks to buckets from Storrs, Harrison, and Byrne. The Northfleet quality bought the score back level with some well worked fast breaks. On came Dan Diamond, and Adam French to see out the first quarter. Diamond made excellent defence cutting passes for Harrison and Hylands to lay-up. It was Northfleet though that finished the stronger and finished the first quarter with a 18-15 lead.

The second quarter was much the same as the first with Byrne and Diamond dictating the Bexhill play for the likes of Storrs and Harrison to capitalise. On defence, Storrs and French had big impacts collecting rebounds and making big blocks on the Northfleet shooters. However, once again it was Northfleet that finished the stronger team with good ball movement and some well crafted set play. Score after the second read in favour for Northfleet 35-29.

The third quarter started with some Northfleet dominance thanks to accurate 3-point shooting and forcing Bexhill to turnover the ball. Bexhill came through this and started scoring points of their own, again with Storrs scoring from under the bucket, Byrne with lay-ups, Harrison with 3-points shots, and Hylands who was able to drive in at the Northfleet defence.

Bexhill earned themselves free throws due to the Northfleet fouls with bought Bexhill back into the game. Diamond came on to help assist the Bexhill catch up with more accurate passing and lay-ups for himself put the score at 51-40 to the hosts.

The final quarter of the game saw Bexhill on the charge for early points to close the gap to Northfleet. Bexhill got themselves within three points after a deep 3-point shots from Ahangar and Byrne and rebound put back from French. Credit to Northfleet however who upped their game to in the final moments of the match to eventually seal themselves a home win score of 70-59.

Player of the game for Bexhill was Charlie Storrs who put up 14 points and had number of rebounds on both ends of the floor. Notable mentions go to Dillon Byrne who finished with most assists for Bexhill (6), and Reece Harrison who finished with most 3-point shots scored (3).
