Eastbourne started the game brightly, enjoying plenty of possession and creating several good opportunities with Fletcher Holman forcing the Charlton keeper into 2 smart saves in the first half. Charlton remained a danger on the counter-attack and Eastbourne keeper Shay Hollobone saved smartly on a couple of occasions to send the game into half-time 0-0.
Charlton started the 2nd period the stronger and created some openings with Hollobone again called into action on a couple of occasions. With the game finely in the balance, Alfie Simmons broke the deadlock from an Arthur Karapetyan cross with 20 minutes remaining, darting in front of his marker to turn the ball home.
Eastbourne put the game to bed with 5 minutes to go when Ethan Howard beat his full-back on the right-hand side and delivered a wonderful cross for Oluwethu Peterson to turn home from close range to finish the scoring at 2-0.
Borough manager Sean Noble explained; "The players were excellent and ground out a good away win with a clean sheet against a tough Charlton side. The players stuck to the game plan well and showed great fight, spirit, and togetherness with some excellent individual performances."
