SHINE MEDIA AWARDS 2021 BEXCLUSIVE WINNER - BEST PIECE ON A DESIGNATED TOPIC – Ben Norris
Ben wrote an article on the impact of Coronavirus and the first lockdown on him and his life. The article was published in the latest edition of the college magazine which has just been released and is available to view on the college portal pages.
The judges said of Ben’s writing: ‘this is a lyrical snapshot of a day during the first lockdown, where the gorgeous florid style evokes youth and its perception of time – a wonderful read which lingers on, much like its title suggests’.
This is a national competition where many of the entries are from public schools. The judging panel is prestigious and rigorous, so Ben’s achievement is enormously impressive.
Ben has been a member of the college magazine team for the last four years and has always been a key contributor to both the design and content. This year he features on the front cover for the second time.
The college magazine is an entirely student led enterprise, supported by Catherine Bagley, Sarah Harris, Chloe Tibey-Jones and Lucie Lineham. The students meet weekly – and did so throughout lockdown this year – and work together to produce the articles, edit the articles, and design the overall magazine. It takes many hours and a lot of work, especially for the design team who have been tremendous this year, working against the odds (college lockdowns and remote learning): they are Isabel Morton, Liam Banks and Toby Bula-Edge.
This is the second year running that the magazine has won an award. Last year the 2019-20 edition won a Rising Star Award for its overall design and content.
