Bexhill College in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation started its 2021 academy season with a 2-1 away victory against fellow Chelsea Foundation College Thomas Bennett.
Bexhill started the game in an impressive fashion by dominating possession, which forced Thomas Bennet to defend very deep and to turn over the ball. Consequently, Bexhill College were able to have total control during the first 20 minutes of the match.
Bexhill took the lead through a long range effort from Nathan Ablitt which nestled into the bottom right hand corner of the Bennett net. Bexhill continued to work hard all over the pitch which forced Bennett into errors in possession, however Bexhill were disappointed with the amount of good chances they wasted to extend their lead
The second half continued in much the same manner as the first with Bexhill continuing to pass up good opportunities to put the game to bed and they paid the price when Bennett equalized in the 70th minute. Bexhill responded fantastically well to regain the lead through Olwethu Peterson who latched on to a long ball out from defence to round the goalkeeper and seal a 2-1 victory.
Man of the match goes to Olwethu Peterson who was a constant threat to the opposition and was rewarded with a goal for his good performance.
Academy director Sean Noble commented “it is very pleasing that we have started the year with a victory, we are hopeful that the other teams can continue with in this manner. It has been an encouraging few weeks with the high numbers in training and seeing a competitive level of ability on display across the whole academy which has created very good competition for places.
