Bexhill College 2-0 Win Against Aldershot Town

Bexhill College in association with Eastbourne Borough Football Club and Chelsea Football Club Foundation secured their 3rd win in 4 games with a hard fought 2-0 victory against Aldershot Town in the National Alliance Under 19 league.

In a tight opening with both teams competing for possession Eastbourne took the lead through a counter attack following an Aldershot comer. Charlie Gibson reacted first to the initial clearance and set Louis Elliot clear to cooley lob the onrushing Aldershot goalkeeper to make it 16 goals in 8 games for Elliot this season.

The remainder of the first half continued to be a tight affair with neither team creating much of note with the best chances coming from distance with Finn Holter in the Eastbourne goal turning one effort onto the crossbar.

The 2nd half was played in much the same fashion as the first half with both midfields battling for control of the ball with brief flashes of dominance from both teams.

With 20 minutes to go, substitute Fletcher Holman latched onto a Louis Elliot through ball to neatly finish under the Aldershot goalkeeper to seal the points for Eastbourne. Both teams continued to create openings with the Eastbourne defence repelling sustained high balls into their box well to secure their 2nd clean sheet in two games.

Eastbourne coach Sean Noble reflected on the game “For me this is our best performance of the season, the players displayed the character and desire which at times they had been short of earlier in the season. The team spirit is clearly visible for all to see with the effort and application to stand up to the physical challenge posed by the robust Aldershot team. This bodes character and team spirit is something that we will look to develop further and enhance in preparation for next season with the majority of the playing squad being 1st year students.”

Player of the match was awarded to Louis Elliot. In a tight game Louis produced the two moments of quality with his goal and assist which ultimately decided the game.
