Bexhill College in association with Eastbourne Borough Football Club and Chelsea Football Club Foundation defeated Maidstone United at the Gallagher Stadium in the National Alliance Under 19 League.
Returning to action from the half term break Eastbourne started brightly and took a strong hold on the game enjoying most of the possession and creating several good opportunities. In a one sided first half the Maidstone goalkeeper thwarted Alfie Simmons from range to with several other efforts testing his reactions which saw both teams go in at the break level.
The second period continued in the same fashion with Eastbourne finally breaking the deadline with a smart finish from Charlie Gibson latching onto a through ball from Delwin Duah.
Eastbourne continued to press and forced the Maidstone goalkeeper into further action from Gibson and Jack Taylor to keep his side in the game. Maidstone forced Finlay Holter into his only save of the game in 89th minute in what was a nervy ending to the game.
Eastbourne coach Sean Noble commented on the performance, “It is difficult to not be happy about a clean sheet victory away from home however the manner of the victory should have been more conclusive. Several aspects of our play were very good but as we have mentioned before we must be more clinical as against better opposition in this league we may not have claimed all three points."
Player of the match was awarded to Jack Taylor for being a constant threat to Maidstone and had an excellent game in central midfield linking the different units in the team.
Eastbourne team: Holter, Graves, Moir, Perry, Ademola (c) Duah, Tarrant, Simmons, Taylor, Gibson, Howard.
