This course is the equivalent of 3 A Levels
Why should you take this course?
The course will enhance your knowledge of the sporting industry and develop your practical skills in various team and individual sports. You will gain an understanding of how the body and mind respond to exercise and how to develop athletes in practical environments.
Course content
Each unit is related to the sporting interests of the group wherever possible and adapted to be as practical as the course allows. It is advisable to have a strong scientific interest and an interest in a variety of sports.
Units will be selected from core units and specialist units and some of these are:
Anatomy and Physiology
Fitness Training and Programming for Health
Application of Fitness Testing
Sport and Well-Being and Professional Development in the Sports Industry
Sports Psychology
Coaching for Performance
Sports Performance Analysis
Sports Leadership
Sports Event Organisation
Sports Injury Management
Development and Provision of Sport and Physical Activity
You will also be required to complete 30 hours of work placement within the sporting industry as part of the course.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is completed using externally assessed exams and internally assessed assignment work, focusing on specific tasks relating to each unit.
Are there any special expenses?
The course provides potential opportunity for a host of additional sporting experiences including first aid, coaching badges, trips and activities.
There is a compulsory sports kit that students will be expected to wear in all lessons.
What could I do next?
Study a sport or sport-related degree in higher education or enter employment within the leisure and sports industry.
