Any Questions?

A Sixth Form College, such as Bexhill College, is a unique type of post-16 institution college whose main focus is on working with 16- to 19-year-olds. As qualifications for 16–19-year-olds is our ‘core business’, we know how to get the best results for this group of students. General Further Education colleges often also focus on providing apprenticeships and courses for adults as well as 16-19 students, so they have a broader focus.

Bexhill College offers two Open Evenings every October, which gives students the opportunity to look around our outstanding facilities with their parents/guardians, in addition to speaking with our teachers and students two are studying with us. Attending an open evening gives students an opportunity to speak to teachers who teach the courses they are interested in and speak to students studying those courses. There is no better way to really understand any course in which you are interested. More information can be found here: (Insert Button to Open Evenings Page)

Once year 11 students have finished their exams, they will be invited to attend a ‘transition day’ in July, to support the move to College in September. During the day, students experience the subjects they have applied to study at Bexhill College, which also helps you to ensure you have made the right choice of course.

This number varies from subject to subject. However, the average class size is around 18 students.

Most local schools will ask their students to apply through Careers East Sussex, an online application website that provides information and advice to all young people in East Sussex on post-16 opportunities. Click here to go to the Careers East Sussex website.

Please check with your school to see if this is how they wish you to apply to college.

The application deadline for students enrolling in September 2025 is the 17th of January 2025.

Yes! Even though you may have missed the application deadline, we do accept late entries. However, those who apply after the deadline will not be guaranteed a place on the courses they apply for as these are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Yes! There will be several opportunities for you to change your course choices throughout the year, including when we invite you to an advisory interview and after the transition day in July. Students may also change their mind after they get their GCSE results because they do better than expected or they have decided on a specific career since they made their application and need to student a specific subject. If you change your mind after your advisory interview, we will do our best to accommodate any requests. However, if a course is full, you need to go on a waiting list.

It is essential that you attend your advisory interview as this is how we determine the courses which are right for you. In this interview, our staff will discuss the subjects you have put on your application form that you would like to study, discuss your expected GCSE results and your career aspirations. At the end of the interview, if we think Bexhill College is the right college for you and we can offer a course which suits your needs, you will be offered a place.

Yes! If you have been offered a place at the College but did not meet the entry requirements of your chosen course, please come and talk to us. We will discuss your options and try to offer you another course suitable for you and your aspirations.

There is a short window during the first few weeks where students can change their course choices. However, these changes are subject to students having the qualifications for any course they wish to change to and that there is a place on that course.

The course change process will be explained to you once you start college.

Whilst this does happen from time-to-time, you can still enroll at Bexhill College. Every student is entitled to a free education until they are 19. Therefore, your first year can be used to retake a level 2 or level 1 course which, if you pass, will enable you to progress onto a course at the next level of study.

Every subject will have 4 hours and 20 minutes of contact time with teachers each week. Most students will take three A Levels, or the equivalent of three, making their timetabled lessons a minimum of 13 hours per week. In addition, students attend tutorials, enrichment, and a number of other key learning activities each year.

Timetables vary year-upon-year when we enroll new students, however most students may find themselves in lessons over three days per week, whilst some may be in for four. The College is open to students Monday to Friday so those who wish to come in to study when they are not timetabled for lessons are encouraged to do so.

Yes. Students must attend all timetabled lessons including tutorial and enrichment sessions. Registers will be taken at the beginning of all lessons.

Students should arrive on time for all lessons. For lesson one, students who are running late due to public transport may collect a late slip from reception with a valid reason. At times other than period 1, students should ensure they leave sufficient time to get to their lessons on time. Lateness will affect a student’s attendance record.

Any absences will be notified to a student’s parent or guardian within 35 minutes of the start of any lesson.
