Why should you take this course?
This qualification offers an exciting opportunity to study a broad ‘creative making’ course that leads to a specialism within the field of Art and Design. It is a highly practical programme supported by written research into related historical and contemporary art and design movements and practices. Learning will be enriched through trips to galleries, as well as work-related learning. Students will be supported in developing professional skills and a strong portfolio in preparation for a future career in the creative industries.
Course content
Students will study 18 units over two years. There is one compulsory unit, Art in Context, alongside a range of specialist units that span both 2D and 3D disciplines. These include Fine and Contemporary Art, Graphic Design, Spatial Design, Photography, Fashion and Textile Design, Exhibition Display, and Portfolio Building.
How will I be assessed?
All units are assessed through a combination of taught and independently guided practical and written assignments. These focus on developing the skills required to produce work within specific specialist areas. To achieve the qualification, students must successfully complete all 18 units.
Are there any special expenses?
Students are expected to have basic art and design materials and equipment, such as pencils, paintbrushes, needles, fabrics, photographic paper, sketchbooks, and a portfolio case. Additional costs may include specialist materials for personal projects, as well as expenses for gallery and museum visits.
