Earlier this term, the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery students were given the task of taking the ingredients provided, all donated to the Warming Up The Homeless charity, and creating two dishes that were nutritious, hot, suitable to be served in takeaway containers and tasted good. One dish had to be vegetarian. The task was set by the charity’s Executive Chef, Bes. The students came up with the idea of creating a Vegetable Soup and a Vegetarian Biryani. They prepared the dishes from fresh ingredients over the morning, and then placed the meals in the containers provided. These were picked up the same day and distributed that night. The Charity was happy with the dishes, and the students received positive feedback. This will be an ongoing event to help the local community and help the students learn about social action and supporting others in need.
