Work Related Learning – Business Students raise money for Chestnut Treehouse

First-year Extending Diploma Business students brought Christmas cheer, and some healthy entrepreneurial competition, to The Ref this week as they hosted a lively fundraising event in support of Chestnut Tree House, a local children’s hospice.

Taking over the mezzanine and other parts of The Ref during the combined lunch breaks (12:30–2:15), students worked in small groups to design and run their own tabletop games and activities. Equipped with just a £50 budget per group, they showcased their creativity, teamwork, and business acumen, transforming The Ref into a mini festive marketplace bursting with energy.

From quirky games and challenge stalls to Christmas-themed competitions, students enticed staff and fellow learners to get involve, all in the name of festive fun and charity.

Their efforts paid off in tinsel-wrapped style as the teams collectively generated over £240 in total revenue, all of which will be donated to Chestnut Tree House, helping support the incredible care the charity provides to children and families.

A huge congratulations to the students for spreading joy, showcasing their business skills, and raising money for such an important cause. What a festive way to end the term and the unit! Special mention to Junior, who, upon raising enough money was willing to have his head shaved in front of a sea of spectators.
