International student success in the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators

A Level Modern Languages students recently entered the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators, translating poems in French, Spanish, German, Italian and Mandarin into English. The competition, organised by Queen’s College, Oxford, received over 16,000 entries from schools across the country. Bexhill College alumnus Charity Hammans visited the College recently to talk to English and Modern Languages students about her experience of studying Linguistics at Sussex University. English Language students recently attended a fascinating talk from Alex Lazell, a Speech and Language Therapist. Students learned about the phonetic sound system, speech problems, and the role of speech and language therapy in helping especially young people develop their speech and language effectively. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about a practical application of the theory the students learn about in the A Level English Language course.
