
Why should you take this course?
During this course, you will gain a detailed understanding of every aspect of the dance world. This will allow you to develop yourself as a performer and expand your knowledge of the development of dance in a wider context. This A Level forms an excellent foundation for the study of dance at a higher level.
Course content
This qualification is designed for students with a substantial dance background. Students are required to: choreograph, perform, and analyse solo and group dances, study various dance works in depth (which includes observational dance trips and workshops), and examine the development of dance with a focus on specific dance practitioners.
You must be prepared to write essays as this is an essential element of the course.
Enrichment Opportunities: Whilst taking the A Level Dance course, you will also have the opportunity to take part in dance companies run within the College and workshops run by professional dance companies, to enhance your dance technique and performance.
How will I be assessed?
Component 1: Performance & Choreography
Practical exam: Solo performance, performance in a quartet, and group choreography
Component 2: Critical Engagement
Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutesUnderstanding and critical appreciation of two set works
Are there any special expenses?
Through the course, there will be opportunities for students to go on dance trips to see professional dance companies and to participate in workshops with dance practitioners. You will be expected to wear clothes appropriate for dance. It is expected that students participate in dance shows and enrichment. Dance students are required to wear a college dance kit.

This qualification will aid entrance to university to study Dance and opens the door for careers such as dance teaching, performing, choreography, and critical analysis.
