Why should you take this course?

This course has been developed in the hospitality industry to give you an understanding of the hospitality and tourism industry and of the key functions within the sector. It will allow you to progress to either higher education or find employment within the hospitality and tourism sector.

Course content

This course will cover the history, scope, growth and responsibilities of job roles in the hospitality and tourism industries. You will gain an understanding of essential study skills, including learning how to carry out primary and secondary research, Harvard referencing and a presentation.

You will be expected to attend a placement, ideally within a hospitality or tourism business to gain experience in the industry. Having a part-time job in the industry is an advantage but not a requirement of the course.

This course will cover areas of the hospitality industry such as front office operations, housekeeping as well as understanding destination analysis and travel agency operations.

There will be opportunities to take part in events as well as meet local employers through guest speakers, trips and a placement to give you the opportunity to see how businesses meet the needs of the local community and visitors to the Southeast.

How will I be assessed?

There are currently no exams for this qualification. You will be assessed on assignments/presentations marked to a pass, merit, or distinction.

Are there any special expenses?

There may be small costs for travel to placement, in addition to some trips.

What could I do next?

Go into employment within the hospitality or tourism industry, or to university to study event management or other hospitality and tourism-based courses. You could progress to a range of management training providers within the UK or abroad.
