Why should you take this course?
Sports Coaching is suitable for any student with a keen interest in Sport who wants to progress to employment in the sports coaching and development sector or higher education.
Course content
Students will study social, physical, geographical, and economic factors that impact sports development and participation. They will develop knowledge and understanding of the ever-growing sports and active leisure industry and the job roles and careers within it, including roles in sports science, coaching, and media. There will be work-related learning activities throughout the course such as planning and coaching/teaching PE lessons for local primary schools which will develop communication, organisation, teamwork, and leadership skills.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through internally assessed assignment work which may take the form of written assignments, presentations, or interviews. Students will also be expected to lead practical coaching sessions regularly to peers and external sports groups.
Are there any special expenses?
The course provides potential opportunities for a host of additional sporting experiences which may incur additional costs, such as First Aid courses, coaching qualifications, and trips. There is a compulsory sports kit that students will be expected to purchase and wear in all practical lessons. Students will also need football boots for the 3G pitch.
What could I do next?
You can progress onto higher education or into employment. Previous students have pursued various sport-related degrees in Sport Science, Sports Development, and PE Teaching, as well as using their qualification to gain employment.
