Bexhill College Men’s 1st team, in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation and in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club, impressive recent form was brought to a shuddering halt with a 5-1 defeat away to Margate on Wednesday in the National League U19 Alliance.
Margate started the game really brightly and scored with their first attack from a free kick and doubled their lead inside the first 10 minutes. Eastbourne suffered a further blow when captain Charlie Gibson had to be substituted due to an ankle injury.
Eastbourne halved the deficit when Sonny Walsh converted a Dom Corbin cross and for the next 20 minutes, Eastbourne were the dominant team without really troubling the Margate goalkeeper. Against the run of play, Margate struck twice in the space of 5 minutes to take the game away from Eastbourne and make the score 4-1 at half time.
Eastbourne attempted to start the 2nd half brightly and enjoyed plenty of the ball without ever really troubling the Margate goalkeeper. Any doubt about the result was eliminated when Margate added a 5th goal. Eastbourne continued to press for a consolation goal but were unable to force the Margate goalkeeper into any serious action with the game finishing 5-1 to Margate.
Eastbourne manager Sean Noble reflected on the result; ”I have no complaints about the result and full credit must go to Margate. Unfortunately, as a team, we were not good enough in all areas of the pitch today. It is important that the players reflect on the positive run of results which saw them win 6 games in a row and move up the league table.
