Work-Related Learning: Ex-Royal Marine and College Alumnus Talk & Fitness Session

Yesterday, Bexhill College alumnus and ex-Royal Marine Darren Clark visited the College for a talk and fitness session with our Uniformed Protective Services students.

Darren, who attended Bexhill College 12 years ago, also studied Uniformed Protective Services during his time here. From there, he joined the Royal Marine Commandos, where he served for 11 years. Darren was a Close Quarter Battle Specialist, and he travelled all over the world, partaking in various deployments. Darren is currently running his own business, known as Spearhead Fitness. Spearhead Fitness is a service that offers everyday clients the training and guidance to reach their desired levels of fitness. Darren also trains potential recruits for numerous uniformed services to help get them up to speed and up to the entry-level requirements of their chosen service.

During the talks, Darren shared his experiences of the Royal Marine Commandos and spoke about his commando mindset for leading a successful life. The classroom talks were proceeded by 30-minute practical sessions on the grass. Darren organised a circuit for the students to complete to prepare them for military fitness requirements. The session consisted of a series of exercises, including sprints, squats, and carries. The students participated in an enthusiastic manner, showing commitment and energy in the bright and warm October sun.

This was a great opportunity for the students to gain insight from an experienced and knowledgeable individual, as well as understand the expectations and levels of fitness they will be required to reach for their preferred uniformed service.
