On Tuesday 4th July 2023, year 9 students from 5 Eastbourne based schools – St Catherines College, The Turing School, The Eastbourne Academy, Willingdon Community School and Cavendish School – took part in Make It Count Day at Bexhill 6th Form College. This annual event gave students the opportunity to experience a lesson and to get a flavour of what it is like to be a student at the college.
Nicola Garstang, Head of Politics, Economics, Business and Law, led the day and commented:
“It was fantastic to welcome five different schools this year, allowing us to embrace the College ethos of providing outstanding opportunities to the wider community. The day was a huge success and all students thoroughly enjoyed their experience at the college. Students took part in a range of activities that were designed to increase both confidence and enjoyment of using numeracy skills”.
The event intends to give pupils the confidence to consider studying subjects that incorporate the use of quantitative skills, such as Economics, Business, Geography, Psychology and Physics.
Positive feedback was received from the pupils who attended the event. Comments included ‘The College is amazing’, ‘I did not know there were so many courses’ and ‘I enjoyed the day, it was fun’.
Bexhill College is looking forward to hosting the event again next year.
