Bexhill College 3rd team in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation, continued their 100% record in the Sussex Schools 2nd XI League, defeating Uckfield 3-1.
In a tight opening in which Bexhill had the lion’s share of possession, Uckfield came the closest to scoring when they hit the inside of the Bexhill post. This chance appeared to kick Bexhill into life, who started to look more threatening. Connor Mcmanus led the Bexhill line well with David Pereira probing from midfield. The deadlock was broken when Mcmanus freed Alex Cunningham whose deep cross from the right was brilliantly kept in play by Sam Stockdale for James Walker to turn in from close range, sending Bexhill into the half-time period 1-0 ahead.
The second half appeared to be following the same path and McMannus got his reward for an excellent display, scoring from inside the Uckfield area. To their credit, Uckfield continued to pressure Bexhill, immediately pulling a goal back to halve the deficit. Bexhill wrapped up the points when goalkeeper Freddie Hensher, who was playing outfield due to a hand injury, scored the third goal with minutes remaining.
Bexhill coach Sean Noble reflected; “The team performed very well with a number of players playing out of position and to all of their credit, they carried out their jobs to the best of their ability. It was an excellent performance with no end of team spirit on display, which has given the players a great chance of challenging for one of the play-off positions”.
