This week, Bexhill Sixth Form College’s Business department welcomed Martin Styring from Chestnut Tree House to talk to 1st Year Business students about fundraising, the mission of the charity, and the skills needed to be an events planner.
Chestnut Tree House provides end-of-life care for terminally ill children and their families in Sussex, and Martin shared his insights on the important work the charity does, as well as the many ways that students can get involved and make a difference through fundraising efforts.
In addition to discussing the charity, Martin also shared his expertise in event planning, giving students valuable information on the skills and techniques needed to be a successful events planner. Topics covered included event planning, marketing, and budgeting, as well as the important role that events play in raising funds for charitable organisations.
To bring these lessons to life, Martin challenged the students with the £50 challenge, where they will use £50 seed funds to run an event and make money for the charity. This hands-on experience will allow students to apply what they learned about event planning and fundraising and make a real impact for a worthy cause. This will also provide the students with the required evidence needed to complete Unit 4 Managing a Business Event.
