On 6th January, we took 16 beginner skiers to Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre to take part in a structured ski lesson in preparation for the upcoming ski trip to Bormio, Italy. The session was designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of skiing in a safe and controlled environment before travelling abroad.
During the lesson, students were taught key basic skills including correct stance, balance, stopping, turning, and the safe use of ski equipment. Qualified instructors delivered the session, ensuring that learners progressed at an appropriate pace and gained confidence on an artificial slope. For many students, this was their first experience of skiing, and the controlled setting helped to reduce anxiety and build initial competence.
The visit also supported health and safety awareness, as students were introduced to slope rules, instructor commands, and expectations around safe behaviour while skiing. This preparation will help to reduce the risk of injury during the overseas trip and allow students to make better use of their time on the slopes in Bormio.
Overall, the trip was highly beneficial. Students showed increased confidence and enthusiasm, and the session provided a strong foundation of skills that will enhance both their enjoyment and safety during the ski trip to Italy.
