Our students recently went on a Geology Trip to Dryhill Nature Reserve near Sevenoaks in Kent. The students conducted a number of practical assessments (SPs) for their A Level fieldwork. They had to locate the geological features and outcrops using map skills. They had to identify potential hazards for a risk assessment. Then they had to measure the angle of the rock strata (dip and strike) plus identify rock samples and rock characteristics by measuring the strata (layers) to complete a graphic log of their findings. It was a highly successful trip and all students commented on how useful this fieldwork was.
