Recently Kurt J. Lesker, a local engineering firm, visited the College to communicate to the STEM students the skills they would need to work in the engineering sector. The Kurt J. Lesker Company is a leading global provider of high-quality vacuum equipment and a leading manufacturer of vacuum technology solutions for research and production applications. Two of Kurt J. Lesker’s current engineers Ed and Milly kindly shared their journeys leading up to their current roles and spoke about Kurt J. Lesker’s Manufacturing Division as well as a range of topics within Welding, including TIG Welding, H & S, and Welding Skills.
As well as hearing about these skills, the students have been putting them into practice during their maintenance assignment. Students were tasked with repairing either a piece of machinery already located within the workshop or their own item of choice provided by themselves. For example, one of the students decided to bring in their motorbike to work on. The fuel had already been removed beforehand for safety precautions.
A huge thank you to Kurt J Lesker for visiting the College and speaking to our STEM students. The students took away a lot of useful advice that will help them in both their studies and later in their careers.
