The Politics, Economics, Business and Law section were privileged to welcome Stephen Welton CBE to the college.
Stephen shared his journey with over 180 students, from the beginning as an A Level student through university and into his diverse and inspiring career which has culminated in his appointment by the Secretary of State as Non-executive Chair of the British Business Bank.
We’re thankful for Stephen’s insights from first hand experience of working in the banking industry, small business investment and government advisory and for giving the time to answer questions from the students and making himself available afterwards for one to one discussion.
Economics lead, Ben Whittingham commented “Our students truly value external speakers giving up their time to come into the college to share their experiences and occupation/industry specific stories and advice. Through such encounters students get a taste of what it’s like to work in big business which fuels their enquiring minds and raises aspiration levels”
Abdurahman Halimah, year thirteen economics student added “It was very refreshing to have an insight from Stephen into possible finance opportunities for us after college. It was both informal and mind-opening, and definitely provided me with an alternate perspective of what my career could evolve into.”
