On Friday 28th April the Rt Hon. Huw Merriman visited the college to speak to first and second-year Politics and Law students about his role within government as Minister of State for Transport and as constituency MP for Bexhill and Battle. Huw explained his pathway into politics, the nature of collective responsibility within his work, discussed the proposed use of the Northeye site, and the collective and individual rights. Students asked probing questions about the government’s approach to immigration, transport unions strikes, cabinet ministers and their choice and use of language, and the attitudes in government towards the LGBTQ+ community and transgender rights.
First Year Politics and Law student Poppy said that the talk was, “inspiring, insightful and interesting, especially Huw’s viewpoints and discussion around the striking rail unions and collective versus individual rights”.
