On Wednesday 10th May, Bexhill College alumnus Iona Murphy visited the College to deliver a seminar on Sylvia Path’s poetry to our A Level English Literature students.
Iona studied A Level English Literature during her time at the College and went on to study a degree in English Literature. She is currently in the process of finishing her PhD on Sylvia Path’s poetry at Huddersfield University. Iona is very up-to-date with the latest research on both the poetry and the context. She recently received a bursary to visit Smith College where Plath studied and had access to the archives stored there, including unpublished letters, journals, and drafts of poems.
Iona returned to the College to share some of this with our students, who are currently studying Sylvia Path’s poetry as a part of their A Level qualification. The seminar was well attended by a mix of Year 1 and Year 2 English Literature students. Iona was very inspiring and many of the students stayed behind to ask further questions about her research and to also discuss the benefits of studying English Literature at university. We would like to thank Iona for taking the time to return and support our students.
