Bexhill College students complete the British Biology Olympiad

Four Bexhill College students recently completed the British Biology Olympiad (BBO), an advanced problem-solving competition for A Level students consisting of two, 45-minute multiple-choice papers that stimulate students with an interest in Biology to expand and demonstrate their talents. The students were presented with unfamiliar topics and ideas, thus challenging their problem-solving skills and understanding of core principles.

Over 15,000 students from over 900 schools worldwide took part in this year’s Olympiad, and all four of our students achieved awards, receiving publicly-recognised certificates for their efforts:

Raphael O’Regan – Gold

Nico Holmes – Silver

Ben Brown – Silver

Ben Dodgson – Highly Commended

The BBO also acts as the first stage in selecting a team to represent the UK at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO), with the top-scoring students in the country invited to complete further practical and theoretical training and assessments. As a result of achieving Gold, Raphael O’Regan has been invited to move forward to the selection process. The IBO seeks to challenge some of the top pre-university Biology students in the world, with over sixty countries taking part. To be among the top 5% of students nationally is a fantastic achievement.

We would like to congratulate our students for challenging themselves to take part in this competition and for achieving outstanding results. Well done to all.
