This term, 17 of our A Level Chemistry students participated in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Olympiad Competition.
This very demanding competition is held annually and challenges students to apply their chemistry and maths skills to a wide range of novel situations. This year the questions covered an eclectic mix, from the toxic products in vape smoke to the size of bubbles in Swiss cheese!
This year Bexhill College achieved its best results to date, with ten students achieving awards. Samantha Wong (pictured centre in the left image above) achieved a gold award, joining the top 9% of approximately 12,000 students who took the challenge nationally. Michael Corston (pictured right in the left image above), Alexander Long (pictured left in the left image above) and Abi Loshaj all achieved silver awards, showing their flair for problem-solving.
Two of our first-year students, Elizabeth Finn (pictured right in the top right image) and Nela Mecirova (pictured right in the bottom right image), also gained silver awards, which is a remarkable achievement in a competition usually taken by students in their second year of study. Additionally, Nela is an international student at Bexhill College which provides another level of difficulty to this challenge when answering the questions in a second language.
Further congratulations go to our 4 bronze award winners, including Daisy Stevens (pictured left in the top right image), and to all the students who challenged themselves to take part in this competition.
