Eastbourne Suffer 5-3 Home Defeat To Chatham Town

Bexhill College Men’s 1st Team in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation and in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club returned to action following the half-term break, suffering a 5-3 home defeat to Chatham Town in the National League U19 Alliance.

In difficult and blustery conditions, Eastbourne took the lead when Delwin Duah headed in Koby Farrell’s corner. Chatham responded quickly with two quickfire goals to turn the game on its head before two late first-half goals extended their lead to 4-1.

Eastbourne started the second period well with the wind behind them and reduced the deficit when Leo Groombridge scored from a Dom Corbin pull back.

Eastbourne huffed and puffed in a scrappy second half without forcing the Chatham goalkeeper into action before the visitors killed the game off scoring a free kick from the edge of the penalty area. Delwin Duah added his 2nd of the game again from a corner 5 minutes from time, but Eastbourne failed to create any clear openings.

Reflecting on the game, Academy Manager Sean Noble stated “The conditions were difficult for both teams and unfortunately we gave ourselves too much to come back from in the 2nd half. That being said, I cannot fault the players’ effort and attitude but we must try to cut out the errors which are leading to opposition chances.”
