Men’s 1st team suffer heavy defeat to Welling United

Bexhill College Men’s 1st team, in association with Chelsea Football Club Foundation and in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Football Club, endured a tough end to the term, suffering a 6-0 defeat at home to Welling United in the National League U19 Alliance.

Following an impressive run of 7 wins in a row, Eastbourne looked to return to winning ways following defeat at Margate the previous week.

In a tight first half, Welling controlled much of the possession without causing Alex Hobden too many problems in the Eastbourne goal. Welling took a deserved lead mid-way through the first half and were rarely troubled in the lead up to half time.

Eastbourne started the 2nd period with renewed vigour, however, individual mistakes meant that Welling extended their lead firstly from the penalty spot and then from a misplaced pass which took away any chance of a comeback within the first 15 minutes of the second half. Welling were ruthless and continued to punish Eastbourne for any mistakes which saw the scoreline finish up Eastbourne 0-6 Welling.

Eastbourne manager Sean Noble reflected on the difficult result; “In terms of the result we can have no complaints. Too many individual mistakes prevented the team from being able to make the game a contest for long enough to test Welling. As a team we have made great strides since November. However, the result does serve as a reminder of how tough the league is, especially when playing teams in and around London in terms of quality and how hard we must continue to work both as individuals and as a team to continue to improve.”
