Our Politics, Economics, Law, Business, Sociology, and Science students were lucky to have an audience with author, writer, and campaigner Nick Dearden who talked to them about the work of Global Justice Now and his new book Pharmanomics. Supported by members of the Global Justice Now committee, as well as the Mayoress of Bexhill, Lynn Brailsford, Nick inspired the students by raising awareness of some of the unethical practices of Big Pharma, as well as some key economic and political turning points which inspired Nick into campaigning for a fairer world.
Ana-Maria, Law student at Bexhill College said “The facts Nick gave us and the stories he told were fascinating. It has given me a much more in-depth understanding of the world at the moment. It opened my eyes to things that are going on in the world that I wasn’t aware of. Nick’s passion for the cause was inspirational and I would love to learn more about the world to develop passion for something in a similar way”.
Ben Whittingham, teacher of economics and business added “We were fortunate to attract such a strong speaker to our college. To hear about the wrongdoings in the world from the mouth of an actual campaigner brought it to life and left the students inspired and longing for more. To have so many students request to buy copies of Nick’s book shows the impression Nick left on them. If we get just one student to go on to change the world then that is part of our job complete. Judging the interest during the talk, I think we’ll have many more.”
