On Thursday the 21st of March, A Level Politics students were joined by 3 members of the local Labour Party, to discuss local politics, local issues and getting involved in politics in and around Bexhill.
Peter Sanders, secretary of the local Labour Party, Elly Gibson, the CLP Chair and former Town Councillor, and Gareth Delany, Rother Councillor for Bexhill’s Pebsham Ward came in to explain their varied roles and responsibilities as part of the party. They also took a variety of questions from the students, discussing everything from the powers of a councillor to what they think about the big issues in the area.
Following the talk, Peter introduced a research task to the students, asking them to look at the role of postal voting in general elections. With a general election due this year, all major parties are investigating the ways to encourage and engage postal voters, and this a great opportunity to engage in the type of research political parties are undertaking regularly.
