Teo, a politics, economics and psychology student wrote: “From July 4th – July 7th, 8 students attended the European Youth Parliament UK (EYPUK) Summer Nationals, Imagine 2024. Following success at Regional Sessions earlier in the year, we enjoyed four days of enrichment, meeting and collaborating with like-minded individuals and participating in multiple debates on an expansive range of topics across the EU. Day one consisted of team building with our assigned committees, mimicking those of the European Parliament. A variety of games were played to help us connect with our committee members from across the UK. Day two focused on resolution writing, in which we debated within our committee on our assigned issue, developing solutions to multiple problems within our topic overview. Days three and four, general assembly, was the accumulation of the previous two days’ work on a wider scale. Each committee proposed, defended, and often amended their resolutions after criticism and support from other committees. The general assembly also allowed us to discuss other committee’s issues and resolutions before voting to pass or drop the proposals. EYPUK offered an incredible weekend to better develop our skills and network with new people and we are all grateful for the experience and look forward to the prospect of attending an International Session should we be successful.”
Beck Brann, Deputy Head of Section took the students and commented on how well-organised, enthusiastic, and committed the students were. “They gave an excellent account of themselves over the four days. I look forward to the results of this National Competition.”
The National Session serves as the second stage of competition within EYPUK events and brings together around 120 participants from across the UK, all of whom have been selected for participation following their Regional Forums. Well done to our participating students who made it through the competitive selection process and were able to showcase their skills and knowledge at the national level. This experience will undoubtedly be of great value to both their studies and their future careers.
In the wake of the results, the College is proud to announce that Teo has successfully been selected for an International Session that will be held in The Hague, Netherlands or Turku, Finland in 2025. This is an incredible achievement and opportunity for Teo and we wish him the best of luck at the next stage. Teo will also be attending the second National Session in September as an event official (chair) and will be partaking in more EYPUK and wide EYP events and activities in the future.
