As part of their debating enrichment, eight first-year students were invited to the south coast regional heat of the European Youth Parliament debating competition. The day long event, held at Bedes School, gave students a chance to test their debating prowess against eight other schools competiting from the area.
Maisie, a Bexhill College debate enrichment student, wrote: “Attending the EYPUK regional debate was a great experience. It was really interesting debating other schools across nine rounds of debate, and the variety of topics really tested our teams’ communication and teamworking skills. I’d really recommend the EYP events to anyone who wants to develop their debating skills”.
The event was also attended by another Bexhill college student. Teo, a current second-year student, attended the event in an official role as one of the event’s organisers. He wrote: “It was a pleasure to return to EYPUK regionals this year after becoming more involved with the charity in an official capacity. I had the pleasure of working with a number of schools across the south coast to liaise with them and, ultimately, organise this year’s session. On the day, I had the amazing opportunity to chair the debates for more than 70 delegates from nine schools. It was a pleasure to attend with Bexhill College last year, this year as an official, and I hope the continue next year as one of the regional coordinators.”
The event was a great success and enjoyed greatly by both students and staff. The college will be attending again next year, continuing the colleges’ recent successes over the last few years.
